Boston Boxing & Fitness Team Training is a 3-month conditioning, strengthening, and boxing training workshop. Team Training sessions are conducted twice a year, from February to April and from September to November with shows occurring in April and December. My photos were taken between the months of September and November of 2011. They document the fall 2011 team from their first day of training until their exhibition match. These photos were taken on October 8, 2011.

Boston Boxing portrait at the PhotoPlace Gallery

My Boston Boxing portrait of Roy Cohen was selected for the online gallery annex of the PhotoPlace Gallery’s upcoming exhibition “Pose and Gesture”. Here’s the information on the exhibition.

Finding the pose that cuts to the heart of a subject and catching the gesture that says it all is one of the supreme challenges of photography. For the juried exhibition “Pose and Gesture”, juror Tim Anderson selected forty photographs for exhibition at PhotoPlace Gallery in February and on the gallery website. An additional thirty-five images were chosen for PhotoPlace’s on-line gallery annex.

Juror Tim Anderson is the former managing editor of CameraArts magazine and has been a professional photographer for more than 20 years. He is the editor of Red Dog News, a bi-weekly photo-based e-mail newsletter, and The Red Dog Blog. He recently published Poser: A Sketchbook of Ideas for Photographers and Models.

These images are part of Boston Photography Center’s Neighborhood Project. The Neighborhood Project is a collaborative initiative of BPC members to document the unique neighborhoods of the metropolitan Boston area: their people, their places, and their personalities that enrich our sense of community and give us our identity.
Nine of my photos will be on display. The photos were taken at Boston Boxing & Fitness in Allston over a period of six months in 2009.
The reception on July 7th is open to the public.
